Aaron Draplin is a graphic designer, author, and founder of The Draplin Design Co. (DDC). He was Born and raised in Detroit, Michigan, on October 15, 1973. and now based in Portland, Oregon. When Aaron left high school at 17 he started his associate degree at Northwestern Michigan College. This is where he learned the basics of visual art. When he turned 19 he moved to Bend, Oregon to pursue his career in graphic design.

Designer Interview With Marty Neumeier

In this edition we have a designer interview with Marty Neumeier who attended Art Center College of Design from 1967 to 1969. For 15 years he worked in advertising and brand design, as a communication designer and writer in Southern California. In 1984 he moved to Silicon Valley to work with clients such as Adobe, Apple, Hewlett-Packard, Microsoft, and Symantec. By 1998 his firm Neumeier Design Team created retail packaging for software products, including Filemaker, Norton Antivirus, Apple system software, and HP LaserJet. During this time he served as a contributing editor for the magazine Communication Arts.

In 1996 he founded the “seminal but now-defunct design magazine Critique”, a quarterly publication about design thinking. Designers contributing to Critique included Robert Bringhurst, Ivan Chermayeff, Milton Glaser, Steven Heller, Stefan SagmeisterPaula Scher, David Stuart, and Massimo Vignelli.

Designer Interview With Henry Alvarez

Today we have a Designer Interview With Henry Alvarez. Henry is a Creative Director from New York. During his colourful, award-winning career, Henry’s well-rounded understanding of branding, problem-solving and art direction have made him a standout creative professional. He has developed creative for a wide range of markets, from consumer products to sports marketing. He has been referred to as a creative chameleon, always adapting his mindset to better understand his audience and deliver visually engaging creative.

Henry’s creative journey started when he was a young fan of comic books and artists such as Frank Frazetta, Jack Kirby and Neal Adams. He studied art in high school and moved on to study fine arts history in college as well as undertaking subjects such as sculpture, photography, painting and life drawing.

By the time Henry had received his associate’s degree in fine arts, He had already learned about iconic designers like Saul Bass, Paul Rand, Herb Lubalin, and Milton Glaser. Henry’s teachers suggested that he would do well in the advertising industry because he was so inspired by the movie posters and identity design Saul Bass had developed, so he set his sights on continuing his education in this related field.
