Why Are Logos So Important and Does the Perfect Logo Exist?

  • In this article we discuss Why Are Logos So Important and Does the Perfect Logo Exist?

    Before creating a business, there has to be a lot of thought put into the details. Finances, marketing, hiring, competition; all of these sectors must be thought over and calculated before taking that very first step. However, it isn’t always the complex things that are most important.

    One of the most crucial areas to get right in business, for instance, is branding. Specifically, the logo that you design to represent your company itself. A logo design can say a lot about a company without using any words at all. It is, in many ways, the window onto your business, your concept. A way to define and tell the story of your company with one glance.

    But it’s hard. Seriously, creating a solid logo that perfectly represents your business is incredibly hard, even though it looks easy. But it needs to be done, especially in 2023, when social media has become the digital world of so many businesses. It is here where your logo will create the biggest impact, both for B2C and B2B companies.

    For B2C companies, for instance, it’s about making potential companies stop, take notice and subsequently draw them in for a closer look. For B2B, it’s about staying within the eye line of existing customers. It’s doubtless that a good b2b loyalty programme will take advantage of social media, so the logo of the company must become the backbone, the shining light that is immediately identifiable and, most importantly, engaging.

    Sounds hard, right? But it can be done. You just need to look at the logos that work and why they have been so successful. With this in mind, let’s finish off with a few examples that you can glean inspiration from:

    Nike

    Yep, of course, we have to start with this one. You might think that the Nike logo “swoosh” is supposed to resemble a tick, but actually, it was designed to mimic wings. Specifically, the wings of Nike, who was the goddess of victory in Greek mythology.

    But Nike have played on the “checkmark” resemblance with their slogan: “Just Do It”, successfully merging the one logo into two ideals. One: the goddess of victory, stating confidence and assurity in being the best brand. Two: the checkmark, signifying getting things done and always making the right choice.

    Starbucks

    Starbucks is another logo that can inspire because it so perfectly captures the place of the company itself. The Starbucks company was born in the major port city of Seattle, and they wanted to make that a solid part of the company’s identity.

    To do this, they drew on old nautical books – such as “Moby Dick” – and chose a mythical creature, the siren, to nail down the theme. This, in turn, instilled mysticism, intrigue and personality in the company itself. It recognises its birthplace, honours it, and mythicises it all with one picture.

    Finishing off with a slightly more out-there one, it’s important to note that creating a logo and getting it right the first time doesn’t always work. But you shouldn’t overlook the importance of giving it another go. The world is always changing, and different trends can direct what a consumer will engage with. For instance, Buick recently redesigned their logo with a slick, stark and modern typeface. According to the owner, he wanted the new logo to “drive the brand toward an electric future”.

    This is a perfect example showing that if you as a company want a change in direction or to capture a different audience, it’s always acceptable to give the front door a lick of paint and morph yourself into something new. But even if you’re not changing your goals as a company, it’s always important to consistently examine the logo, ensure it works in the modern world and always represents exactly who you are.

I can now say I have finally got around to reading them.
